Wise Realities Inaugural Symposium, Healthcare Immersive Technologies was held on March 7th, 2019. The sponsors were the City of Perth, the MTPConnect WA Hub, Curve Tomorrow, Linear Clinical Research, Western Australian Health Translate Network (WAHTN) and Ernst & Young.
The Chief Scientist of Western Australia, Professor Peter Klinken has delivered the opening speech, followed by speakers from the WA government, research foundations and institutes and the industry including Mr Daniel High (Acting Director Economic Development and Activation, City of Perth), Dr Ali Fardinpour (Executive Director – Wise Realities / Immersive Technologies Research Scientist), Mr Warren Harding (Minister for Health’s Nominee – Sustainable Health Review), Dr Darren Gibson (Director of Research Development Unit, Department of Health), Ms Jocelyn Young (CEO, Medical Research Foundation, Royal Perth Hospital), Dr Michael Winlo (CEO, Linear), Ms Vee Pendergrast (Cofounder, Stirfire Studios), Professor Kevin Pfleger (MTPConnect).
Speakers have discussed the need for innovation in health and the importance of research and community as vital aspects of health innovation. The talks were followed by an engaging panel discussion. Topics discussed and questions asked included the importance of funding for research-based innovation, the future of health and digital health, the importance of collaboration and industry engagement.
Participants also had the opportunity of having a hands-on experience with a wide range of health and medical-related Virtual Reality experiences including Australian productions 3D Organon VR Anatomy, St John Ambulance (WA) First Aid VR, and Edith Cowan University Mass Casualty Management.
We are now proud to announce that HIT Symposium will be an annual international scientific symposium based in Perth, Western Australia. Our next symposium will be held on 6th-7th March 2020.
